The regulations that have been recently proposed in Norway seem to be much the same as the US’ UIGEA. Therefore, the idea of changing the laws of Norway’s gambling market caused strong protests in Europe. For some time Norway belongs to the group of countries where the gambling issue is the main subject of public discussions. Along with several other countries, Norway does not want to accept the EU policies, which demand all EU-members to provide free trade of goods and services in European Union. Instead, Norway wants to sustain the country’s monopolies, or block the problem sectors of the gambling industry.
Meanwhile, the Remote Gaming Association (RGA), which loudly objected the all kinds of UIGEA-like regulations, comes off the headlines. As for the Norway, they want to block their market with a ban on financial and banking transactions. Everybody, who is concerned about the EU gambling industry, remains alerted after the Norwegian parliament passed the UIGEA-like regulations.
The RGA and European Surveillance Agency have immediately filed a formal complaint to the Nordic UIGEA. The situation on the gambling market in the European Union is unstable, because neither the European Court of Justice nor the agency has introduced a high ruling on the problem. Although Norway continues to introduce the UIGEA-like legislation, in order to sustain their gambling monopoly, their actions will surely be stopped by the European Union.
